Internal Medicine at IGMH

Internal medicine is a broad field of medicine which deals with the prevention, diagnosis and cure of a wide range of adult diseases. Often the diseases that this field is concerned with are multi-system diseases and require prolonged, sometimes lifelong treatment. Diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension etc would be best treated by a doctor specialized in this field. As this speciality treats diseases of many organs  some of its doctors are specialized  into fields such as Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology and etc...

The Internal medicine department of IGMH consists of 15 doctors.  Among these, are doctors who have further specialised in the fields of cardiology, nephrology and Pulmonology. Inaddition to regular OPDs, this department conducts clinics for the treatment of Diabetes and Tuberculosis.

The diabetic clinic is held every Thursday from 9AM. It is a walk in clinic, meaning that appointments are issued from the internal medicine counter on that day. Patients who wish to consult are advised to do so while fasting, as investigations may need to be carried out.

ICCU (Intensive Critical Care Unit)

This unit handles patients who are in the most severe and life threatening states of illness. Patient health can be monitored and maintained through various state of the art life support systems. Patient treatment is carried out by a team of doctors, through the collaboration of many specialties.

General Advice to public
Patients should bring all relevant documents to every consultation. For example:- Prescriptions, X-rays, ECGs etc.. If you do not have the prescription for your most recent medication, please bring the  all the medications that you are taking. If you run out of your prescribed medication do not halt taking the medication until you are you are able to consult with your specialist doctor. Consult with a General Practitioner and have your medication re-issued
