Dermatology in IGMH
Dermatology is the specialty which is concerned with hair, nails and skin. Furthermore STIs (sexually transmitted infections) are also treated by dermatologists; not urologists, despite the assumption of many people.
The department of Dermatology in IGMH is comprised of 4 doctors. These doctors through OPD consultations and monitoring of admitted patients treat a wide variety of diseases.
Some of the common conditions treated include:-
- Fungal Infections
special treatments provided in OPDs
- Chemical peeling
- Chemical cauterization
- Electric Cauterization
- Skin tack removal
- Leprosy Program
In collaboration with the WHO and the ministry of health IGMH runs a program to diagnose, treat and provide follow up for leprosy cases in the Maldives. A handful of new cases are diagnosed every year.
All medications are provided free of charge
An OPD specifically for the treatment of dermatological disorders in children is conducted every Saturday.
